- David Bowie was announced to play villain Zorin but declined the role, explaining he didn't want to spend five months watching his stunt double fall off cliffs.
- After Bowie turned down the Zorin role, it was offered to Sting before finally going to Christopher Walken.
- Priscilla Presley was set to play Stacey Sutton but had to be replaced by Tanya Roberts due to her contract obligations with the TV series Dallas.
- A fire at Pinewood Studios' 007 Stage on June 27, 1984, caused by leftover petrol canisters from Ridley Scott's Legend, destroyed the soundstage used for Bond filming.
- Dolph Lundgren appeared in the film as an extra KGB agent after director John Glen spotted him visiting Grace Jones on set and asked him to fill in for a missing extra.

- Roger Moore announced his retirement from the Bond role in December 1985, six months after A View to a Kill's release, ending his tenure after seven films.
- A disclaimer was added to the start of the film after a U.S. company with a name similar to Zorin was discovered, making this the first Bond film to include such a disclaimer.
