- Stan Lee pitched an Ant-Man film to New World Pictures in the late 1980s, but the project stalled when Walt Disney began developing Honey, I Shrunk the Kids with a similar shrinking concept.
- Howard Stern attempted to purchase the film rights to Ant-Man from Marvel in 2000.
- Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish wrote an early treatment for Ant-Man in 2003 where Scott Lang was conceived as a burglar influenced by author Elmore Leonard, but Wright believed this treatment was never sent to Marvel.
- Edgar Wright shot a test reel for Ant-Man in June 2012 lasting just under a week to determine how convincing the title character's powers would look on screen.
- Wright delayed Ant-Man's production in July 2013 to complete The World's End after the film's producer Eric Fellner was diagnosed with cancer.
