- Ant-Man and the Wasp was the first MCU film to feature a female character in the title.
- Early script drafts included a cameo from Captain America during Luis' flashback sequences recounting the Civil War airport battle, but the writers removed it because the Civil War events were already referenced frequently enough that the appearance felt forced.

- Director Peyton Reed drew visual inspiration from After Hours, Midnight Run, and What's Up, Doc for the film's look and feel, aiming for a tone that blended action and romantic comedy.
- Michael Douglas initially expressed interest in having his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones cast as Janet van Dyne in a potential follow-up to the first Ant-Man.
- Evangeline Lilly wanted Michelle Pfeiffer to play Janet van Dyne, Hope van Dyne's mother.
- Paul Rudd was involved in the scriptwriting process alongside professional screenwriters Gabriel Ferrari, Andrew Barrer, and Adam McKay.
