- George Miller signed on to direct a Justice League film that would have marked Aquaman's cinematic debut, but the project was canceled in 2008 due to production delays from the Writers Guild of America strike.
- Santiago Cabrera was cast as Aquaman for the canceled Justice League: Mortal film before the project fell through.
- Peter Jackson was approached twice to direct Aquaman but declined both times.
