• Marvel Studios initially planned to include Captain Marvel in an early draft of Avengers: Age of Ultron but removed the character to avoid introducing her before they could properly establish her backstory and personality.
• Screenwriters Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve were selected as a writing team after they each impressed Kevin Feige with separate takes on the character.
• The film's release date was pushed back twice during development, moving from July 2018 to November 2018, then finally to March 8, 2019 to accommodate other MCU releases.
• Captain Marvel would begin the film having already gained her powers rather than following the traditional MCU origin story structure where a character acquires abilities during the narrative.
• In August 2014, public interest in a Captain Marvel film reportedly exceeded inquiries about Iron Man 4 and Avengers: Infinity War.
