- J.K. Rowling published a real-world edition of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in 2001 as a charity textbook to raise money for Comic Relief, years before the film was announced.
- This was J.K. Rowling's first time writing a screenplay, making her debut as a screenwriter with Fantastic Beasts.
- Alfonso Cuarón was rumored to direct the film but publicly denied the claim in May 2014.
