- J.K. Rowling wrote the screenplay for The Crimes of Grindelwald herself, rather than bringing in another writer.
- The Fantastic Beasts series expanded from a planned trilogy to a five-film franchise between October 2014 and October 2016.
- Director David Yates chose to cast a younger actor as Albus Dumbledore instead of Michael Gambon, who had played the role in six Harry Potter films.
- Jude Law was cast as young Dumbledore after consideration of Christian Bale, Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Strong, and Jared Harris for the role.
