Trivia & production notes

• Bernd Eichinger first approached Marvel about Fantastic Four film rights in 1983, and eventually acquired the option in 1986 for an estimated $250,000.
• Facing an expiring option deadline in 1992, Eichinger commissioned Roger Corman to direct a low-budget $1 million Fantastic Four film solely to retain the movie rights, which was shot but never officially released.
• Chris Columbus was fired from directing Fantastic Four in the mid-1990s after telling Fox executives to base the film on Jack Kirby's conceptual art from Marvel's Silver Age.
• Peyton Reed spent nearly a year developing the film with three different sets of writers before departing in 2003, later repurposing his unused ideas for the MCU film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
• Michael Chiklis portrayed The Thing using only practical effects rather than CGI, a choice he insisted upon himself.
• Tim Story was hired to direct after Fox was impressed with his early cut of Taxi and his familiarity with the comics, then made significant changes to the script after seeing The Incredibles to avoid similarities.
• The film's soundtrack featured two supergroups created specifically for the album: one led by former Marilyn Manson guitarist John 5, and another combining members of The Distillers, Jet, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and The Datsuns.
