Trivia & production notes
- Director Justin Lin prepared a twelve-minute finale for Fast & Furious 6 before Fast Five finished filming, unsure whether a sequel would be greenlit or if he'd be allowed to direct it.
- Universal Studios deliberately shifted the franchise from street-racing films into heist movies with car chases, taking inspiration from classics like The Italian Job and The French Connection.
- The studio initially planned to shoot Fast 6 and Fast 7 back-to-back as two parts of a single story before abandoning the idea due to weather concerns at filming locations.
- Jason Statham was offered a villain role in the film but turned it down because he didn't feel the part was right for him.
- Fast & Furious 6 became only the third production ever permitted to film in Piccadilly Circus, though the filmmakers had to build a replica of the landmark at Shepperton Studios since they couldn't secure permission for an elaborate action sequence there.
- The production was granted only two minutes every hour to shut down Piccadilly Circus for filming.
- Filming was relocated from Marseille, France to the Canary Islands to take advantage of a 38 percent tax rebate that saved an estimated $20 million in costs.
- Paul Walker sustained an ACL injury during a stunt in October 2012, forcing the production to film around his scenes while he recovered.
- Michelle Rodriguez was confirmed to reprise her role as Letty Ortiz after being absent from the previous two films in the franchise.
- The script grew so large that Vin Diesel and producers decided to split the story into two films, with the combined material exceeding 110 pages.
