- The actors were forced to live together inside a tank for an extended period where they ate, slept, and defecated to build authenticity for their roles.
- Tiger 131, the only operating Tiger I tank in the world, was lent by The Tank Museum for the film, marking the first time a genuine Tiger I tank appeared in a contemporary war film since 1950.
- During preparation, director Ayer had the cast physically spar with each other, resulting in black eyes and bloody noses, and they engaged in personal attacks to build tension.
- A stuntman was accidentally stabbed in the shoulder with a bayonet while rehearsing a scene in Pyrton and was airlifted to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
- The production filmed a scene on Remembrance Day 2013 with extras wearing Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS uniforms, which sparked controversy and prompted apologies from director David Ayer and Sony.
