- Rowan Atkinson signed on to play a James Bond spoof in March 2000, before his film Maybe Baby was even released.
- The Johnny English character originated from a British Barclaycard advertising campaign where Atkinson played a similar spy named Richard Latham.
- Principal photography for Johnny English took fourteen weeks and was completed in September 2002, with the final scenes shot over two days in Monte Carlo.
- Natalie Imbruglia was announced to star alongside Atkinson in July 2002, just before filming wrapped.
- At Canary Wharf, filmmakers digitally duplicated a single real tower into two identical ones to represent the fictional London Hospital and Sauvage's headquarters.
- The Westminster Abbey scenes were actually filmed at St. Albans Abbey, with the connection only implied through dialogue rather than intercut with real abbey exterior shots.
- Freemasons' Hall in London served as MI7 headquarters in Johnny English and was later used as MI5 headquarters in the television series Spooks.
