- Ken Ralston, the visual effects supervisor of the original Jumanji, was set to make his directorial debut with a sequel scheduled for Christmas 2000 before stepping down and the project stalling.
- In 2002, director Dennis Dugan pitched an alternate sequel concept that would have brought back Robin Williams with expanded comedic opportunities, but Sony abandoned the project when unable to secure Williams' involvement.
- The remake announcement in August 2015 faced significant online backlash, with criticism coming from Bradley Pierce (who played Peter Shepherd in the original film) and outlets like E! News, partly due to the timing shortly after Robin Williams' death.
- Jack Black suggested both the final title "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" and the use of Guns N' Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle" as the film's theme.
- Jack Black was paid $5 million for his role while Kevin Hart received $10 million.
