- Cary Joji Fukunaga became the first American director to helm an Eon Productions James Bond film and the first director to receive a writing credit on any Bond movie.
- Danny Boyle departed as director in August 2018 after disagreeing with screenwriter John Hodge's script, despite reports at the time suggesting the conflict was over casting villain Tomasz Kot.
- The production required five different writers to complete the screenplay: Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, John Hodge, Paul Haggis, Scott Z. Burns, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
- Phoebe Waller-Bridge became the second female screenwriter credited on a Bond film after Johanna Harwood, who co-wrote Dr. No and From Russia with Love.
