- Michael Bay initially wanted Pearl Harbor to be R-rated to graphically depict the horrors of war, but ultimately accepted Disney's PG-13 requirement because he believed young children should be able to see it.
- The film's original proposed budget of $208 million was cut down to $140 million after Disney executives objected, and even then the studio convinced crew members and vendors like Panavision and Industrial Light Magic to defer millions in payment.
