• Director Roger Michell exited the project in October 2006 after only a few months, citing slow progress on the script, forcing producers to push back the release date from May 2008 to late 2008.
• Marc Forster, the chosen director, was not originally a Bond fan and only accepted the job after watching Casino Royale, which he felt had made the character more human and relatable.
• Forster was the first Bond director not from a Commonwealth nation, born in Germany and raised in Switzerland, though he noted Bond's mother is Swiss.
• Paul Haggis completed his script draft just two hours before the 2007-2008 Writers Guild of America strike officially began, preventing further professional rewrites for months.
• During the writers' strike, Daniel Craig and director Forster were permitted to rewrite scenes together since actors and directors could work on material while professional writers could not be hired.
