- Development of Skyfall was suspended throughout 2010 due to MGM's financial troubles, with production resuming only after the studio exited bankruptcy in December 2010.
- The cast announcement press conference was held on November 3, 2011, exactly fifty years after Sean Connery was announced as James Bond for Dr. No.
- Daniel Craig returned as James Bond for the third time in Skyfall.
- Judi Dench returned as M for the seventh and final time in the role.
- Director Sam Mendes lobbied hard to cast Javier Bardem as villain Raoul Silva, and had the actor's script translated into Spanish as a commitment test.
- Javier Bardem dyed his blond hair for the role of Silva after brainstorming a distinct visual look with director Sam Mendes.
- Ralph Fiennes had been previously considered to play James Bond during the casting of GoldenEye before being cast in Skyfall as Gareth Mallory.
