Trivia & production notes
- George Lucas didn't complete his rough draft for Episode II until March 2000, only three months before filming was set to begin.
- The film's working title was Jar Jar's Great Adventure, a sarcastic jab at fan complaints about the Episode I character.
- Jonathan Hales, who had primarily written for The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles television series, was brought in to help write the third draft despite his limited experience with theatrical films.
- The final shooting script was completed just three days before principal photography began.
- A new droid factory action sequence was developed during reshoots in March 2001 after Lucas felt the film lacked sufficient pace at that point in the story, with the live-action footage shot in just four and a half hours.
- Ewan McGregor wore a fake beard and hairpiece during post-production filming because he had shaved and trimmed his hair for his role in Black Hawk Down.
- Attack of the Clones was the first film ever produced through what was called digital or virtual filmmaking, with shots assembled from various departments and sources miles and years apart.
- Samuel L. Jackson personally requested that his character Mace Windu have a purple lightsaber instead of the traditional blue, green, or red.
- The film was shot entirely on the HDW-F900 digital camera in 16:9 HDCAM format, making it only the third feature film ever to be shot entirely on a 24p digital camera.
- When creating the CGI version of Yoda, animators replicated details like the ears jiggling when the head moved to match the original puppet, which George Lucas admitted he was scared to death about pulling off.
