Trivia & production notes
- George Lucas conceived the Star Wars saga's plot outline in 1973, though he only had major plot points worked out at that time, not the full details.
- The climactic lightsaber duel in Revenge of the Sith was inspired by a scene in the Return of the Jedi novelization where Obi-Wan describes Vader falling into a molten pit.
- Lucas originally planned to open the film with a montage of Clone War battles across seven planets, but instead refocused the story on Anakin's fall to the dark side.
- Early drafts included a 10-year-old Han Solo on Kashyyyk and a scene where Palpatine reveals he created Anakin from midichlorians as his father, both ultimately cut from the final film.
- After principal photography wrapped in 2003, Lucas significantly rewrote Anakin's turn to the dark side through editing and reshooting scenes in London in 2004, emphasizing his desire to save Padmé over his belief that the Jedi were plotting against the Republic.
- Hayden Christensen gained 25 pounds over three months, eating six meals daily and consuming protein supplements, to physically demonstrate Anakin's maturity between the two films.
- Christopher Lee completed all his scenes in just two days because he needed to return to shoot pick-up shots for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
- Hayden Christensen persuaded George Lucas to create a Darth Vader costume that fit him specifically, complete with shoe lifts and a muscle suit, making Revenge of the Sith the first Star Wars film where the same actor played both Anakin and the suited Vader.
- Revenge of the Sith holds a world record with 2,151 shots using special effects, and the miniature model of Mustafar measured 33 feet long, 18 feet wide, and 7 feet tall, making it the largest scale model built for any film at that time.
- Creating just 49 seconds of the Mustafar duel required 910 artists and 70,441 man-hours of work.
