- Arnold Schwarzenegger requested a $25 million salary for Terminator 3, a cost that contributed to the project exceeding Fox's intended $95 million budget.
- Andrew G. Vajna, a co-founder of Carolco who had left the company in 1989, won the auction for the Terminator 3 rights in October 1997 for $8 million after the film's development rights had cost Cameron and Fox nine months of negotiations.
- James Cameron declined to direct Terminator 3 because he felt he had completed the story with his first two films, despite initially planning to write and produce the project.
- Cameron's friendship with Vajna and Kassar deteriorated after they quietly began acquiring the Terminator rights during a meeting where Cameron was showing them an early cut of Titanic without disclosing their intentions.
- Edward Furlong was dropped from Terminator 3 in December 2001 after being cast to reprise his role as John Connor, with Warner Bros. removing him due to concerns that his publicized drug problems would jeopardize the production.
