Trivia & production notes
- Paul Greengrass was chosen to direct after producer Tony Gilroy recommended that the filmmakers watch Bloody Sunday, Greengrass' film about the Bloody Sunday shootings in Northern Ireland.
- Doug Liman, who directed the first Bourne film, was replaced as director due to conflicts with the studio during production of The Bourne Identity.
- The production shot scenes in reverse geographical order: Moscow first for the car chase and ending, then Berlin for most of the film, and finally Goa, India for the opening scenes.
- Two weeks before the film's premiere, director Paul Greengrass and star Matt Damon created an alternate ending featuring a phone conversation between Landy and Bourne in New York, replacing the original hospital room conclusion.
- George Nolfi contributed uncredited work to the alternate ending devised just before the film's release.
- The alternate ending tested better with audiences than the original ending, leading the producers to include it in the final release.
- Industrial Light Magic handled the special visual effects for the film.
- Russian stunt coordinator Viktor Ivanov and Scottish stunt driver Gillie McKenzie won the Best Vehicle award at the 2005 Taurus World Stunt Awards for their work on the Moscow car chase sequence.
