- 20th Century Fox pulled out of the production just three weeks before filming began, prompting Harvey Weinstein to acquire worldwide rights for Miramax Films for $27.5 million.
- Cast and crew agreed to salary deferrals totalling $10 million to help the film get made, but more than three years after release, many were still waiting to receive their deferred payments.
