• Frank Darabont wrote the screenplay adaptation of The Green Mile in less than eight weeks.
• The film's title comes from the green-colored floor running down the hallway where inmates walk before facing execution in the electric chair.
• Production designer Terence Marsh custom-built all interior sets and designed a bespoke electric chair inspired by actual prison models.
• Tom Hanks and director Frank Darabont first met at an Academy Award luncheon in 1994, where Stephen King suggested Hanks for the lead role.
