• The concept drew inspiration from 1960s Western TV shows like Bonanza and The Virginian, which frequently featured episodes where outlaws would take the main characters hostage.
• After the script leaked online in January 2014, Tarantino considered abandoning the film project and publishing the screenplay as a novel instead.
• The leaked script featured a different ending where Warren and Mannix attempt to poison Gage, leading to a firefight that kills every character in the room.
• Tarantino held a public staged reading of the script at the Ace Hotel Los Angeles in April 2014 and announced he was writing two new drafts with an altered ending.
