- Aaron Sorkin decided to write the screenplay after reading just three pages of Ben Mezrich's unfinished draft, making it the fastest he had ever committed to a project.
- Sorkin structured the film around three conflicting versions of Facebook's founding story told during depositions, rather than choosing one narrative as the definitive truth.
- The opening scene where Zuckerberg is with his girlfriend required 99 takes to complete.
- Armie Hammer played both Winklevoss twins by acting alongside body double Josh Pence, with Hammer's face later digitally grafted onto Pence's during post-production and split-screen photography used in other scenes.
- Jesse Eisenberg was prohibited by producers from meeting Mark Zuckerberg during production for legal reasons, despite his intention to visit Facebook's offices.
- David Fincher sent Armie Hammer and Josh Pence to ten months of specialized training to learn everything about the Winklevoss twins before filming began.
