Trivia & production notes

• Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg completed the New Moon script during the opening weekend of the first Twilight film in November 2008, having spent five months alternating between writing for the Showtime series Dexter and working on the screenplay on weekends.
• Catherine Hardwicke did not return to direct New Moon due to time restrictions, and Chris Weitz was hired as her replacement in December 2008.
• Taylor Lautner gained approximately 30 pounds of muscle through weight training to retain his role as Jacob Black, whose character undergoes significant physical changes between the first and second films.
• Taylor Swift requested a cameo appearance in New Moon but was declined by director Chris Weitz because he felt it would be too distracting.
• The casting director for the Quileute tribe wolf pack actors was Rene Haynes, who had previously worked on films with large Native American casts including Dances with Wolves and Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee.
