- Martin Scorsese initially abandoned The Wolf of Wall Street to direct Shutter Island, then returned to the project in 2012 when Red Granite Pictures greenlit it without content restrictions.
- DiCaprio and Warner Bros. won a bidding war for the film rights to Jordan Belfort's memoir in 2007, with Belfort receiving $1 million from the deal.
- In 2010, Ridley Scott was offered the director role with Brad Pitt set to play Belfort, but Warner Bros. abandoned the project before it moved forward.
- Jonah Hill earned the minimum SAG-AFTRA rate of $60,000 for his role, while Leonardo DiCaprio received $10 million as both star and producer.
