- Hugh Jackman cited the 1982 Claremont-Miller comic series set in Japan as his favorite Wolverine story and wanted to adapt it into a film.
- Kevin Durand was promised by Jackman that he would return as The Blob in the sequel, reimagined as a sumo wrestling champion in Tokyo, but the plans were ultimately scrapped.
