- Original screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman declined to return for the third film, with Kurtzman explaining that the franchise deserved fresh creative voices rather than repeating themselves.
- James Cameron personally convinced Michael Bay to shoot in 3D by framing the technology as a creative tool rather than a gimmick, even offering his Avatar technical crew to assist with the production.

- A planet-eating Transformer character named Unicron was briefly featured in a secret preview on the Revenge of the Fallen Blu-ray disc, but the producers ultimately decided to exclude this plot element from the final film.
