- The city of Troy was constructed on Malta at Fort Ricasoli over a three-month period in 2003, after producers relocated from Morocco due to the Iraq War beginning.
- Brad Pitt injured his Achilles tendon during filming, forcing production to halt for several weeks.
- Terry Gilliam declined to direct the film because he believed it was impossible to adapt Homer's Iliad without including the Greek gods.
- Christopher Nolan was offered the director position for Troy, but when Wolfgang Petersen's Batman vs. Superman project was canceled and Petersen returned to Troy, Nolan received Batman Begins as a consolation prize instead.
- Aishwarya Rai turned down the role of Briseis because she was uncomfortable with the sex scenes required for the part.
- Diane Kruger, who was cast as Helen, described her screen test as making her feel like "meat" due to the uncomfortable nature of the audition.
- Composer Gabriel Yared was replaced after test screenings with his incomplete score received negative reactions, and James Horner rewrote the entire soundtrack in approximately four weeks.
