- Bryan Singer announced X-Men: Apocalypse via Twitter in December 2013, before X-Men: Days of Future Past had even been released to theaters.
- The film was set to take place in 1983 and was designed to complete a trilogy that started with X-Men: First Class.
- Simon Kinberg received $8 million for writing the X-Men: Apocalypse script, matching his payment for Days of Future Past.
- The screenplay initially had no third act and instead only contained bullet points outlining what could happen, which the production crew downplayed due to complacency from the studio.
- Oscar Isaac was cast to play Apocalypse in November 2014.
- Grace Fulton, who would later appear in the DC Extended Universe Shazam films, auditioned for the role of young Jean Grey but lost out to Sophie Turner.
- Hugh Jackman confirmed in April 2016 that he would make a cameo appearance as Wolverine, months into post-production.
