• David Benioff spent nearly three years pursuing the Wolverine project before being hired to write the script in October 2004.
• Hugh Jackman collaborated on the script and wanted it to function as more of a character study than previous X-Men films.
• Director Gavin Hood suggested making Wolverine and Sabretooth explicit half-brothers rather than just implied blood relatives to strengthen the film's emotional impact.
• Zack Snyder turned down the opportunity to direct the film because he was committed to Watchmen.
