- Michael Schur and Dan Goor, who studied together at Harvard, created Brooklyn Nine-Nine after feeling that police station settings had been underutilized in TV comedies since Barney Miller.
- NBC passed on the series before Fox picked it up, but NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt later expressed regret over the network's initial rejection.
- Fox canceled Brooklyn Nine-Nine after five seasons in May 2018, but NBC announced a renewal just 30 hours later following a social media campaign from fans.
- The show's exterior shots of the 99th Precinct building were actually filmed at the real 78th Precinct in Brooklyn, though no actual NYPD precinct has ever been assigned the number 99.
- Brooklyn Nine-Nine was filmed at CBS Studio Center in Studio City, Los Angeles despite being set in Brooklyn.
- The series aired as a lead-out program following Super Bowl XLVIII on Fox after Fox placed an initial 14-episode order in May 2013.
