- Alexis Bledel's first-ever acting role was playing Rory Gilmore, despite having no prior experience.
- Lauren Graham was committed to another NBC show when casting directors wanted her for Lorelai, but they asked her to audition anyway just a week before filming started after struggling to find someone for the role.
- Scott Patterson was initially hired to play Luke as a guest role but treated the pilot as a chemistry test and was subsequently promoted to series regular.
