Trivia & production notes
- Gillian Anderson negotiated her contract to receive equal pay to David Duchovny after initially being offered half his salary.
- Anderson was hesitant about returning for the revival because she assumed Fox would order over twenty episodes, but enthusiastically agreed once learning it would be a short run.
- Joel McHale was cast as a guest star after Chris Carter was impressed by his roast of Barack Obama at the 2014 White House Correspondents' Dinner.
- Writers Darin Morgan and James Wong returned to the series, with Glen Morgan joining in a productorial capacity, all having worked on the original run.
- Vince Gilligan, a former X-Files writer, wanted to return but was unable to due to his busy schedule on other projects.
