- Matthew Vaughn originally envisioned Days of Future Past as the third film in the First Class trilogy, preceded by a young Wolverine movie set in the 1970s, but Fox accelerated the project and made it the second installment instead.
- Matthew Vaughn pitched opening the film with the Kennedy assassination, revealing that the magic bullet was controlled by Magneto, but this concept was not used.
