Trivia & production notes

• The show's early episodes were filmed in Santa Clarita, California at a Lockheed Martin corporate campus because the area resembled Las Vegas's outskirts, then moved to nearby Santa Clarita Studios after the 11th episode.
• After season five, CSI primarily filmed at Universal Studios Hollywood rather than in the Santa Clarita area, though outdoor scenes continued to be shot in Santa Clarita due to its versatility.
• The theme song 'Who Are You' was written by Pete Townshend of The Who, with vocals by Roger Daltrey, who later made a guest appearance in the season-seven episode 'Living Legend'.
• Ozzy Osbourne, The Wallflowers, John Mayer, and Akon each performed onscreen in separate episodes rather than just having their music featured in the background.
• The 'Mad World' cover by Gary Jules and Michael Andrews, originally made for the 2001 film Donnie Darko, was used in the pilot episode and three season-six episodes.
• By 2002, CSI had become the second-most watched show on American television and took the top position for the 2002–2003 season.
• CSI was named the most watched show in the world for the sixth time in 2016, more frequently than any other television series.
• Fans organized a campaign starting in August 2007 to keep actress Jorja Fox on the show, collecting over $8,000 in donations and shipping more than 20,000 letters with money from 49 countries to CBS and Universal Studios.
• A miniature model of Gil Grissom's office sold for $15,600 on eBay in October 2007, with CBS donating the proceeds to the National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association.
